Central Halmahera, April 28, 2026 — Weda Bay Nickel commemorated World Safety Day by bringing safety activities directly into the field. The activities were conducted simultaneously across three operational areas and involved management, employees, and contractor partners.
Carrying the theme “We Are All Safety Leaders,” this year’s commemoration reinforced that workplace safety is the responsibility of every individual — not solely tied to certain positions, departments, or functions.
The activities included Visual Performance Management sessions — daily meetings conducted before work begins — field observations, and direct safety interactions with workers in operational areas. One of the key highlights was the Work Authority simulation, a role-playing exercise where workers were placed in scenarios involving unsafe working conditions. Through the simulation, participants practiced making the decision to stop work, communicate it to their teams, and ensure conditions were fully safe before operations continued.
The simulation reflected a real challenge often faced in operational environments, where workers may hesitate to stop a job, especially when production targets are high.
Pierre Epinoux, VP Mining of Weda Bay Nickel, reaffirmed the company’s core principle: “Safety is not determined by your title, position, or legal obligation. Safety belongs to everyone. No production target, schedule, or tonnage is more important than human life.”
As a form of appreciation, the company also recognized employees and contractor partners who demonstrated outstanding commitment to maintaining workplace safety. The event concluded with the signing of a collective safety commitment by Weda Bay Nickel management and representatives of contractor partner management teams.
