Jakarta, May 11, 2026 – PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), in collaboration with PT Weda Bay Nickel (WBN), continues to intensify efforts to prevent Dengue Fever in the workplace through healthcare services provided by the Weda Bay Medical Center (WMC). This initiative aims to safeguard workers’ health while supporting a safe, healthy, and productive working environment.
As a healthcare facility located within the Weda Bay industrial area in North Maluku, Weda Bay Medical Center (WMC) is committed to implementing comprehensive dengue prevention and control programs. Dengue is a viral infection caused by the dengue virus (DENV), transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes.
The Manager of Weda Bay Medical Center, dr. Aldi B. Situngkir, stated that WMC actively carries out dengue prevention and control measures, including close collaboration with the Provincial and Regency Health Offices of North Maluku. This cooperation has been formalized through agreements covering case reporting as well as mosquito control and breeding site elimination in surrounding areas.
dr. Aldi further explained that early detection of dengue fever at WMC is conducted through screening employees who present with fever symptoms, supported by laboratory blood tests to accelerate diagnosis.
Treatment is carried out promptly through diagnosis and care that are integrated with referral hospitals in accordance with established medical standards. This is complemented by transmission control measures, including patient segregation to help break the chain of infection.
In addition, preventive actions include mosquito breeding site eradication in both workplace and employee accommodation areas through the 3M method, larval surveillance to identify mosquito species, the application of larvicide (abate powder), and controlled fogging measures.
Other preventive programs include dengue vaccination for employees as an added layer of protection, further strengthened through collaboration with nearby community health centers (puskesmas) to conduct surveillance of mosquito breeding sites in residential areas where employees live.
In recognition of these efforts, on April 23, 2026, PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), through Weda Bay Medical Center, received an award from the SIAP Lawan Dengue initiative as a pioneer company committed to contributing to dengue prevention and control in the workplace.
SIAP Lawan Dengue is a collaborative movement in Indonesia supported by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Manpower, and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), aimed at protecting workers from dengue through workplace prevention initiatives. The award assessment focuses on prevention education, mosquito breeding control, and implementation of dengue vaccination programs.
Through these sustained prevention efforts, IWIP and WBN, via Weda Bay Medical Center, continue to protect the health and safety of workers while promoting a culture of clean and healthy living within the industrial area. Moving forward, IWIP and WBN will further strengthen collaborations and enhance preventive measures to minimize dengue risks and ensure a safe and sustainable working environment.
